Neb. immigration rally rescheduled for Wednesday

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - An immigration rally on the steps of the state Capitol has been rescheduled for Wednesday after inclement weather twice forced its postponement.

Nebraska Appleseed says hundreds are expected to show their opposition to a measure targeting illegal immigrants. Buses and vans will bring people from Grand Island, Kearney and Omaha to the UNITY Rally for the Good Life.

State Sen. Charlie Janssen introduced an illegal immigration measure reminiscent of Arizona's controversial law. Janssen's bill would require police to question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally. It would also require non-U.S. citizens to carry proof of their legal status.

Nebraska Appleseed says the measure isn't good for the state, and that changes to the immigration system should be made at the federal level.
