A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Mexico was found in the Pima County jail where he had been booked under an alias on unrelated charges.
Francisco Valle-Celaya, 28, was wanted in connection with a July 2008 homicide in Sonora in which the victim was shot five times at point blank range, according to a news release.
He was booked into the Pima County jail on misdemeanor charges under the alias of Francisco Adalberto Bellavisa.
Online court records show a man by the same name — Bellavisa — being arrested Feb. 8 on a narcotic drug charge.
A U.S. Marshals Service task force and Mexican authorities began working together to locate Valle-Celaya, which they were able to do after learning about the alias he used.
On Monday, Valle-Celaya was removed from the Pima County jail and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, the release said.
He was then taken to the Nogales port of entry where Mexican authorities of the Federal Investigation Agency took him into custody.
From there, Valle-Celaya was given to the Sonoran State Investigative Police for prosecution.
