Ana Padilla used to be go by her middle name, Maritza. She told us that was when she first came to the United States illegally.

"I come from Guatemala City in 1986," said Padilla.

She told us after working in the States for about ten years, she decided to start her own housekeeping business. "Make some personal cards and put them in a mailbox of houses," said Padilla. "I was like, maybe somebody will need somebody to clean the house."

According to Ana, one of those somebody's was Brian's wife, Kathleen Sandoval. "She told me she could only pay me $40, because she only needed a light housekeeper in the house."

Ana says she cleaned the Sandoval's home every Monday for more than six months. "When I was working for them, they never asked me for documentation."

She says Brian Sandoval was always there while she cleaned, but Kathleen handled most of the business. "The checks all the time were signed by Kathleen, but the checks have both of their names on them."

Nearly 13 years later, Ana and her seven children are now U.S. citizens. She told us she had not seen the Sandovals since working for them, until she caught a gubernatorial debate on television. "I was so happy. I told my husband, 'look, it is Mr. Sandoval.' I'm going to be in the Republican Party and see if we can help him."

Ana says she was happy to see another Latino running for office. She says that elation turned to disappointment when she heard Sandoval say he does not support amnesty for illegal immigrants. "In the time I worked with him, he supported me," said Padilla. "Now he says he does not support Latinos that are already here?"

Ana says she no longer supports anyone in the gubernatorial race. She says she is coming out about this now, because she wants people to know what Sandoval stands for.

We received a statement about Ana Padilla from Sandoval's campaign earlier today.

"Brian and Kathleen do not know this person. Obviously, this is another desperate and dishonest attack by Rory Reid's failing campaign. It is further proof that Rory will say anything to get elected."

Channel 2 News did not learn of this story from the Reid campaign. We actually heard about Ana telling her story on a local Latino radio station and we contacted both campaigns about that time.
