    NC: Price speaks on immigration

Congressman David Price (D-NC) and Chair of the DHS Appropriations Subcommittee spoke at length about his views on what must happen to protect the homeland, and specifically he mentioned how immigration reform should be viewed (through what lens) and what priorities he feels should be set for immigration reform. A must read for anyone who wants to understand the challenges in passing immigration reform and why immigration reform efforts have stalled.

Moreover, the intense focus on the broader illegal immigration problem – consisting primarily of an effort to intercept, detain, and deport individuals who illegally cross our borders in search of work and a better life – is distracting the Department’s attention and diverting the Department’s resources away from the truly dangerous threats and challenges we face.
Sounds as if Rep. David Price (D-NC) is suggesting that ICE ignore the thousands of illegal aliens that cross our borders monthly. Exactly how does he know which illegals have the potential to commit serious crimes or have done so in the past. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't serious criminals caught all the time iduring traffic stops, business raids, etc.?

Moreover, the intense focus on the broader illegal immigration problem – consisting primarily of an effort to intercept, detain, and deport individuals who illegally cross our borders in search of work and a better life – is distracting the Department’s attention and diverting the Department’s resources away from the truly dangerous threats and challenges we face.
How do you distinguish between a illegal alien looking for a better life and an illegal alien terrorist or criiminal? In order to blend into our society, isn't it possible that terrorist and criminals take jobs too?

“I want to be clear on that point. The illegal presence of foreign nationals in the United States is a problem, and calls into question our commitment to the integrity of our immigration laws. But we need to put that problem into perspective on two counts: First, the integrity of our immigration laws is compromised primarily by the fact that those laws are grossly unrealistic in relation to our labor market demands.
Are you suggesting that we ignore the rule of law simply because big business demands it. Personally, I've seen nothing credible that suggests there is a shortage of labor in our country. However, I have seen plenty of evidence that indicates a conspiracy among big businesses to lower labor costs to unrealistic levels.

“At our Committee’s direction, ICE has now developed a plan for identifying all those criminal aliens now serving time in our Federal, state, and local prisons and jails, and for deporting them upon the completion of their sentences.
Throwing us a bone doesn't excuse your flawed thinking in other areas!

so as long as our immigration policies are not responsive to the realities of our labor market, illegal immigration will drain our resources and distract attention from the apprehension of criminal and terrorist aliens crossing our borders and living among us.
In regards to illegal immigration and border security, this is the kind of thinking that got us to where we are today.

He is evidently an NAU man and the only way he will ever get what the American people expect from this government is to remove people like him from his seat in DC.

Congressman calls for Immigration Reform as a Priority
Posted by rachelfirm on June 25, 2008

Yesterday, Congressman David Price (D-NC), the chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, spoke at length about his take on Homeland Security. One of his main points was the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

Whatever the rationale, the next Administration must make immigration reform a higher priority and pursue it more effectively. Such reform will strengthen our economy, reaffirm the rule of law, and enhance homeland security, allowing DHS to focus more effectively on that small percentage of illegal immigrants that has the capacity and the intent to commit crimes and do us harm.
He also touched on the administration’s recent turn to an enforcement only policy. This is the same policy which Angelica Salas is denouncing, which is tearing apart families nationwide, detaining US citizens and forcing thousands of people into inhumane detention conditions.

[quote]The current Administration made some effort last year to promote comprehensive immigration reform, but it now seems to have turned 180 degrees toward an enforcement-only approach. This might be interpreted as an attempt to appeal to the most hard-line anti-immigrant segment of the population, but some have painted it as an effort to drive home the need for immigration reform by inflicting pain on businesses and communities who depend on these workers. If it really is some sort of perverse “tough medicineâ€

I've got news for Price. If he thinks deporting the violent criminals after they've served their sentences is going to keep them from coming back, he's loony. It doesn't matter where they are dropped off, they will be right back to commit more violent crimes. And it's easy to come back with our border wide open.
RIP TinybobIdaho -- May God smile upon you in his domain forevermore.

Price is open borders all the way. He makes it sound almost criminal and inhumane to enforce our own immigration laws. LOSER! VOTE THE MAN OUT!
