NYC: Mayor: Immigration Restrictions 'Insane'
Mayor: Immigration Restrictions 'Insane'
By ELIZABETH GREEN, Staff Reporter of the Sun
July 1, 2008
America is "committing mass suicide" by putting restrictions on immigration, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.
He made the remarks after announcing an initiative that is aiming to lure Americans into the fields of math and science, which Mr. Bloomberg termed "the industries of the future."
Moving aside from education, Mr. Bloomberg painted immigration as a short-term way to lure engineers to America, where they could innovate and create new jobs.
"There are people around the world who want to come and create here and add jobs and excitement and innovation, and we're keeping them in Canada and in Europe and Asia and not letting them here," Mr. Bloomberg said.
He termed the restrictive policies "insane."
In the past, Mr. Bloomberg has strongly criticized efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, saying the American economy depends on immigrants to survive.

Oh poor mayor,,,I quess he is worried his daughter will have to clean her own horse stalls...and that would be insane
Never look at another flag. Remember, that behind Government, there is your country, and that you belong to her as you do belong to your own mother. Stand by her as you would stand by your own mother

Just read your remarks on immigration.
What's insane, mayor, is allowing our nation to deteriorate into third world status.
By 2010, NY taxpayers will be paying 6 BILLION for emergency medical care, education, and incarceration of illegal aliens.
Right now, more than 11,000 city classrooms are overstuffed. 4,500 of of Queens' high school classes are beyond the capacity for basic education levels.
What was one 151,000 acres of farmland on Long Island is now 34,000, and by 2010 will be less than 10,000 at current growth rates.
What's insane, mayor, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Of course, as is so typical of those with his net worth, Bloomberg doesn't experience the negative impacts of mass immigration and overpopulation first hand. It's all in the abstract for him and his ilk.

Deport the illegal alien families and we have more room for skilled, educated, respectful people around the world to emigrate LEGALLY.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Dear Mr. XXXXX:
Thank you for your letter concerning immigration, which has always played a critical role in strengthening our City's - and our nation's - social and economic life. People of good will can disagree on the best way to address the problem of illegal immigration, but I hope we can all recognize that there are no easy answers - they have been tried, and they have failed. In a post-9/11 world, we must do better.
To ensure our national security and keep our economy growing, I believe it is essential that Congress take a comprehensive approach to immigration reform. This means not only increasing border security, an important but insufficient step, but also reducing the incentive to come here illegally. To do that, we must begin holding businesses accountable for checking the immigration status of their job applicants, and we must increase the number of visas we give to overseas workers. I believe that this practical approach, and the recognition that immigrants have always played a vital role in our economy, will help keep our City and our nation strong.
While we may not agree on how best to address these challenges, please know that your concerns are important to me, and I appreciate that you have taken the time to share them.
Sincerely,
Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor
