NHP accuses driver of DUI, open container violation

A 21-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested on suspicion of driving while on drugs and with an open beer in his car, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Hipolito Reyes-Nunez, also gave them a fake Resident Alien Card.

About 11 p.m. Sunday a motorist reported following a suspected drunken driver. A trooper stopped Reyes-Nunez's vehicle and immediately detected an odor of alcohol, said Trooper Chuck Allen, NHP spokesman.

According to a preliminary breath test, the 21-year-old man's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. On his driver's seat was a small plastic bag of suspected cocaine, and a half-full can of beer was underneath the seat, Allen said.

Reyes-Nunez was booked into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine, drunken driving, failure to maintain a lane, driving with an open container of alcohol, no valid driver's license and false identification to establish residency.
