BENSALEM, Pa. — An alert police officer saved a damsel in distress from an attack by a fugitive illegal alien, who is now behind bars.

The attack occurred Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Kohl’s department store on Street Road.

Police said Detective Eliot Gross arrived at the store at about 5:40 p.m. to follow up on a previous investigation. As he exited his vehicle, Gross heard the sound of a woman screaming coming from across the lot.

Gross, police said, ran toward the screams and found the victim standing by her parked car, out of breath, and obviously in distress.

Police said they learned that the suspect, later identified as Ramon Ramirez, was waiting outside the store as the victim exited. They said he followed her to her car and grabbed hold of her with intentions of raping her.

But the victim fought back, and her resistance and screams kept her attacker at bay and caught Gross’ attention.

The victim, police said, pointed out her assailant to Gross. He was by now running across the parking lot. Gross took off on foot and was able to catch up to him and bring him into custody.

Ramirez, 24, was charged with attempted indecent sexual assault, simple assault and related offenses. He was held in Bucks County jail on $75,000 bail.

Police also learned that Ramirez was wanted on a burglary warrant out of California and an active administrative warrant for his removal from the country by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement, due to his status as an illegal alien.
