TEMPE, Ariz. - Tempe police say a young woman run over and dragged during a robbery Wednesday morning has died from her injuries, and her family is now begging for the public's help in finding her killer.

Tempe police said Thursday that 21-year-old Kyleigh Ann Sousa, who is from New Jersey, died Wednesday night.

The investigation determined the Arizona State University student was approached by a heavy set Hispanic man in a newer model silver Chrysler 300 or Dodge Charger. They had a brief conversation, before the man grabbed her purse.

Police said the man grabbed it and attempted to drive away from the 200 block of East Apache Boulevard. Police say it happened so fast, she may have gotten tangled up with her purse and was dragged some 20 feet.

The vehicle then fled.

Thursday, her parents issued a teary public appeal to find her killer.

"At 8:55 last night, I died when she did. I have two other boys, but nothing breaks the bond of a daughter. Her injuries were so severe, there was nothing they could do," says mother Karen Montenegro.

"There was no surgery that could put her back together. The only thing they did was keep her alive until I came here. And when I walked in the room, I didn't recognize my own daughter."

Police believe there was more than one person in the car. Tempe Police say that anyone who is keeping back information about the suspect and his passenger will also be dealt with.
