Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham called on President Barack Obama Sunday to do the heavy lifting on immigration reform.

“I urge the president to write a bill and see if he can get another Republican,’’ Graham said on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday morning. “Write a bill and send it to me.’’

Graham has been working for the past year with New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, who chairs the immigration subcommittee, on a comprehensive immigration reform measure. The two released a framework for a plan just days before the health reform bill vote.

But Graham predicted then that if the democrats pushed through health reform with no GOP help that immigration reform would be dead for this year.

“I’m just being honest,’’ Graham said, “I will keep working with chuck on immigration. Immigration is tough’’ Graham said Obama promised to pass an immigration bill in the first year of his presidency but, he said, the White House has “done almost nothingâ€
