OR: Willamina considers becoming illegal alien-free zone

Oregon town considers becoming 'illegal alien-free zone'
08:56 AM PDT on Friday, March 28, 2008

A big debate is brewing in a small Oregon coast range town: Residents of Willamina are considering turning their town into the country's first illegal immigrant-free zone.

City councilor Paul Delaney started it all with his proposal to allow sheriff's deputies to ask anyone in the city to prove their citizenship.

“The cops in town know the people in the town. If you see a bunch of different people, you should have the right to know who's in your town,â€

However, many in the community say all the proposal does is legalize racism
How is it racist to remove someone who is in this country illegally? How is it racist to be asked to show your ID? I would show my ID to a police officer ten times a day if asked because I know it's being done for the greater good of my community. I would be greatful for that!

If your legal then what do you have to worry about.

He said they can stop anyone who they aren't familiar with. Well, that would be me and I wouldn't have a problem with that. I wish our town did that. He DIDN'T SAY stop anyone of these specific ethnic groups. He said, ANYONE.

Yep we have to keep calling the liars for what they are. They distort people's words. So we can't stand back any more in fear of being called names. It worked through the sixites and still works to some degree today. BUT I FOR ONE WON'T SHUT UP BECAUSE SOMEONE CALLS ME A FALSE NAME. I'm not so timid any more. LOL LOL

Willamina votes against illegal immigrant measure

WILLAMINA, Ore. - They won't be checking your passport or birth certificate in the town of Willamina.

The town council voted against a local measure aimed at ridding the community of illegal immigrants.

Paul Delaney, the council member who proposed the ordinance, said he came up with the idea out of frustration for what he sees as federal inaction.

"I just basically have a problem with illegal immigration in general," he said. "It's just expanding and blooming out of control."

Maybe they need to look into the 287 (g). It wouldn't cost their city much and they would have a jump on criminal aliens and ICE help. That's the way to go for it.
