Drivers Deliver Across The Border
Drivers Deliver Across The Border
Dec 1, 2007
MEXICO CITY (AP) - The American truckers, environmentalists and politicians who are sounding the alarm about the potential dangers of allowing Mexican tractor-trailers onto U.S. interstate highways rarely mention an important fact: Hundreds of Mexican-plated trucks already deliver cargo all over the United States, and have done so for years.
Teamsters union members have waged angry protests at the border and on Capital Hill, waving signs saying “NAFTA Killsâ€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

All of the reasons citied are only a fraction of what is needed to determine whether this change would be safe. Perhaps the drivers presently operating in the US are the better ones--expanding this program might require allowing less skilled drivers in. Freeways are getting more crowded--and risks are rising exponentially. Rapidly rising fuel prices cause more motorist anxiety and tensions on the highway. Etc, etc.
This is opening a can of worms."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

And these Mexican drivers and trucks have had better driver and vehicle safety records than their U.S. counterparts in recent years, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation - although opponents say many violations never get recorded because of sloppy government record-keeping.
I am not sure I buy this.
Quite often, in TExas anyway, the highway patrol just looks the other way when it is someone they suspect to be an illegal, even though they are driving a vehicle with plates whatsoever and no stickers - this I saw.
So what's to keep them from enforcing the law with the Mexican truckers and they can say they haven't had a problem - because they don't check them.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
