IMPERIAL — Michael J. Fisher, chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, visited the El Centro Sector this week as part of what he calls a “listening tour,” to visit with agents on the front line and hear their input.

“I want to hear from them directly in terms of what we can be doing better, both to fulfill the primary mission requirements and to find out what they need to do their job better in securing this country so for me, it’s a reality check,” Fisher said. “As a Border Patrol agent coming up through the ranks many years ago, I always thought if I ever got to the position of making a decision, I would always check with the front line agents before I did anything. We all make decisions for good intentions but sometimes they’re uninformed. I try to come out to the field frequently to make sure I understand the challenges that the men and women are facing today, because they’re quite different than when I came in the patrol.”
