Police continue to investigate a possible car-jacking and fatal shooting in Reno Monday morning.
Officers say just after nine o'clock off-duty gaming control officer noticed a scuffle between two women and a man in a car parked near Starbucks at 7th and McCarran. One of the women jumped out of the car and a short time later, the car took off.

The off-duty officer took off running after the car and soon caught a ride with a truck driver passing by.

Lt. Mike Whan with the Reno Police Dept. said, "That is also witnessed by an off-duty, outside agency officer who then follows the car that's in question.. gets a hold of us to let us know there's some type of felony in progress and is following the car, and giving us directions on where he's going."

The chase continued until the car stopped about a mile later on Edgewood Drive. Officers say the male passenger in the car was holding a knife, and after a confrontation, the off-duty officer shot the man in the car once.

Police have now identified the shooting victim as Santiago Martinez of Reno. He died a short time later at Renown Medical Center.

Reno and Sparks police, as well as the Washoe County Sheriffs Office continue to investigate.
