    Immigration Debate Goes Digital

MANASSAS, Va. -- Prince William County's illegal immigration debate has now reached YouTube.

One film covering the county's decision to deny some services to undocumented residents has been viewed more than 40,000 times.

Filmmakers Eric Byler and Annabel Park have put more than 30 video clips on the issue online within the past month.

"This is a way for people to learn about the issues without going to a place where there's bound to be conflict," Byler said.

Their latest filming took place Saturday next to a billboard under construction in Manassas. It is the same site that has displayed pro-immigrant writings in recent weeks.

The couple interviewed people on both sides of the debate.

"The problem now is we've been inundated with illegal immigrants and we don't have the money to support them," Prince William resident John Pauswinski said.

    But another resident disagreed.

"I think what they're doing here in Prince William County is persecution and oppression," said Odie Esparza.

The filmmakers would normally take months to put together a feature-length documentary But they said they decided to start posting on YouTube immediately due to the timeliness of the immigration debate.

Prince William County supervisors recently voted to restrict county services to illegal immigrants. Incumbents who voted for the proposal -- including the chairman -- expect to be challenged in Tuesday's election.

"We didn't feel right holding the information," Park said. "We became part of the dialogue."

The filmmakers said they try to be objective and balanced in what they post online.

Did you ever notice that the only ones protesting our enforcement of immigration laws are either Latinos or clergy?
