CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - The U.S. Border Patrol is offering a $250,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death of one of its agents.

Agent Robert Rosas was shot July 23 near Campo, Calif., while responding to reports of suspicious activity in an area known for the smuggling of drugs and illegal immigrants.

Mexican authorities have detained five men in connection with the case. But the FBI is leading the investigation and has not publicly identified any suspects.

The FBI is offering an additional $100,000 for information leading to an arrest, as well as $10,000 for help finding Rosas' Border Patrol-issued gun.

The 30-year-old left behind a wife and two young children.
