    Voter confronts McCain on immigration

    Voter confronts McCain on immigration

    By HOLLY RAMER

**McCain never fully answered the question.**

HOPKINTON, N.H. (AP) -- Sen. John McCain, who often faces challenging questions on illegal immigration, confronted a voter Sunday who called for ending legal immigration as well.

For months, McCain has been telling New Hampshire audiences that he still believes in the immigration plan that failed in Congress earlier this year but that he now realizes that none of its components - including allowing millions of illegal immigrants to eventually earn legal status - can be enacted until the borders are secured first.

That wasn't enough for a man who spoke up at the Hopkinton Town Hall, telling McCain that legal immigration could result in civil war in the next five years.

"Do the people in Washington - the politicians and the lobbyists and the rich people writing the checks - do they understand the amount of anger the average European Christian, native-born American feels when they see their country turning into a multicultural chaos Tower of Babel?" he said.

McCain started to answer, only to be interrupted by his questioner accusing him of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants. Finally, McCain repeated his promise - "I think for the 15th time" - that he would secure the borders to stop illegal immigration before attempting anything else.

He also strongly objected to the man's argument about the nation's future and the impact of legal immigration.

"I believe the greatest strength of America is the lady who holds her lamp behind the golden door that says send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses," he said, referring to the Statue of Liberty. "And I am grateful to live in a nation that has been enriched by people coming to our nation from around the world.

"I will do everything in my power to secure the borders, but I love this nation and I love the people who have come from around the world," he said to loud applause.

Our greatest strength is the statue from France (or even the idea of it)??? What a jerk!
We are NOT a nation of immigrants!

I'm glad some voters are confronting McCain on this issue, although he continues to evade and spin. Like a typical privileged elite who is sheltered from the devastating first hand consequences of illegal immigration, McCain is a lost cause on this issue.

Yes...legal immigration of yesteryear WAS great for America. But it was steady, controlled immigration, with people being allowed in from all over the world. People who had to prove they were proficient in English, people who had to swear to give up their allegience to the country they were leaving, people who had to prove that they would come to America with the ability to take care of themselves (no welfare).

But "immigration" today? A massive flood of poor, unskilled, uneducated peasants who have very little ability to care for themselves and their families, who have no English skills, and who fly the Mexican flag on their front doorsteps??? That is NOT enriching this country, Senator McCain!!!
Calderon was absolutely right when he said...."Where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico".

McCain couldn't get re-elected in his own state, let alone for President!
Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

I was flipping channels this morning on the idiot box and came across the event as replayed on CSpan.
The guy who posed the questions to McCain, was serious and vented pretty good. McCain deserved the 'heat' of course.

Also, Re: Emma Lazarus poem/Statue of Liberty: There's a big difference between an inscription on a statue and official immigration policy of the USA.

Earn $50/hour working for McCain picking lettuce...? -

This "inscription" is in effect a historical marker, it is what political refugees who entered 100 years ago thought when they first saw the statue.

I wonder how much it would cost to add this explanation to the plaque? Anybody in New York want to start an organization to get this clarified? I am sure it would be no problem to raise the money from frustrated Americans.

OK, here is the entire poem from the Statue of Liberty:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame,
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Notice Emma Lazarus calls the statue "Mother of Exiles", people we today call political refugees and allow in over 100,000 of them a year legally!

The OBLers also leave off the "yearning to breath free" part, another reference to political refugees.

Illegal aliens are not political refugees, they already have freedom in their country! The Statue of Liberty is not about them!! They are criminals here to steal from Americans!

Now how can we get Ron Paul to say this to the press?
