The Mexican Public SSchool system is awful due to the politicization by the Mexican Teachers Union. If families have money they send their children to a church or private school. One of the best ways to improve the Mexican economy would be to persuade youth with an American public education to go to work in Mexico because they would be bilingual and better at math and science. Guess what it is already a program we have only we call it attrition through enforcement.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

What a ditz.....everything she says about Mexican education, poverty etc. should be directed at MEXICAN officials...in fact, she'd do a whole lot of good if she was in MEXICO saying those very same things and urging the Mexican government to fix their nation. In case Longoria hasn't heard, AMERICANS are hurting economically these days and we have a reckless, ego-maniacal President who is using our crisis to push through his radical, Socialist folly and a junior, inexperienced feckless Treasury Secretary who announced yesterday that he wants American taxpayers to pay another 100 billion dollars to the IMF so we can help other nations climb out of recession.

What is with these empty-headed celebrities ....who jump on the latest, liberal bandwagons to score more p.r. points...with the idiots who follow their careers?

Richard, I always advise people who doubt the commitment of the American public to improving conditions in developing countries to do a very simple google search: "Short+term+missions" I just showed 16 million responses to that!

"Latin America missions" gave me almost 14 million. Therefore there are thousands of programs.

Need I say any more? A lot of these short term programs are staffed by younger American people, while the older generations put up the money.

She's presuming there is no poverty, illiteracy or crappy schools in the U.S. She needs to visit Washington DC or Appalachia. Maybe one of the Indian reservations.

Pop Tarts, what an appropriate name? WHO cares what a Hollywood bimbo has to say about much of anything.

ReggieMay, you are quite right about visiting some of OUR schools and focusing on THEM first!

Another Hollywood bimbo with more money than brains, attempting to set policy as to what we should be doing as a nation! Sick and tired of these Hollywood rejects being given a platform because they make movies for a living. Stick to what your best at Eva, making bad movies and getting paid handsomely to do it!

Hey Eva, if your so concerned with mexico, then open your check book and start writing!
