Border Patrol agent hit by wrong-way driver

CHULA VISTA – A Border Patrol agent is in the hospital Tuesday with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a speeding wrong-way driver. The unidentified agent was riding a motorcycle on his way to work when he was struck by Gregory Cabral, 46, of Winchester, late Monday night, said Officer Marc Hale of the California Highway Patrol.

Cabral was driving a 1998 Geo Metro west on the eastbound lanes of state Route 905 just after 11:30 p.m., according to witnesses who alerted the CHP.

Officers caught up to Cabral on Interstate 5 near Coronado Avenue after Cabral had driven about three miles north on the southbound lanes of the freeway, Hale said.
