'America's Most Wanted' suspect apprehended by ICE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers earlier this week captured a native of Colombia featured on "America's Most Wanted" in Charlotte, N.C., following a tip from New York Police Department officers advising ICE the wanted fugitive had been arrested on criminal charges in North Carolina.

ICE officers assigned to the 287(g) program at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Sheriff's Office arrested James Victoria-Jimenez, aka Pablo Castro, at the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Jail where he was detained after being arrested for trafficking cocaine and possession of stolen goods.

"The capture of this dangerous fugitive is proof of ICE's and our law enforcement partners' commitment to uphold public safety," said Felicia Skinner, field office director for the ICE Office of Detention and Removal in Atlanta. "The days of running away from justice of this man are over."

Victoria-Jimenez is a known member of the South American Theft Groups, a transnational criminal network, and was listed on "America's Most Wanted" Web site as a fugitive wanted for immigration violations. He has been removed from the United States on three prior occasions.

In August 2000, he was convicted in the Southern District of Texas for violations to Title 8 U. S. Code Section 1326, reentry of a previously removed alien. He was sentenced to one year and one month in prison.

ICE filed a detainer against Victoria-Jimenez. He will be transferred to ICE custody once his criminal case is completed.

According to the "America's Most Wanted" Web site, Victoria-Jimenez has been charged with 51 felonies and served time for grand larceny in upstate New York. In July 2002, he escaped from the correctional facility where he was being held.
