CALEXICO — U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a dangerous gang member trying to enter the United States illegally early Monday morning, according to a Border Patrol press statement.

Around 2 a.m., agents saw Jose De Jesus Salazar-Gomez, 35, enter the U.S. illegally from Mexico and arrested him without incident before he could reach nearby neighborhoods in downtown Calexico.

He was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station, and agents then realized Salazar is an active member of the “Florencia 13” criminal street gang out of Los Angeles with a previous felony conviction for first-degree burglary.

Salazar had served two years in prison for the burglary. He will be presented for prosecution of re-entry after being previously deported from the U.S.
