N.C. community college panel OKs immigrant enrollment

RALEIGH, N.C. — A committee of the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges on Thursday approved a policy that would allow illegal immigrants into the two-year colleges.

A vote by the full board was expected Friday.

Under a proposed policy, immigrant students who graduated from a U.S. high school would have to pay out-of-state rates of about $7,000 a year. Also, lawful U.S. residents would have priority to crowded classrooms.

The country's third-largest community college system has changed its illegal immigrant admission policy four times since 2000. The latest look comes as laid-off workers fill classrooms.

Latino advocacy groups hailed the proposal, saying it would continue North Carolina's tradition of higher education support for state residents.

"We were the first state to allow access to higher education in the country, and I hope we continue to live with that tradition," said Irene Godinez, director of advocacy at El Pueblo.

But the idea has stoked fierce opposition from groups that maintain the state shouldn't provide any services to people who are in the U.S. illegally.

"If we have community college students illegally here and graduating and taking a job, that's going to keep another North Carolinian drawing unemployment and probably getting health benefits, so where's the savings?" said Ron Woodard, director of NC Listen, a nonprofit that opposes illegal immigration.

How is this even possible??!! How has this country gone so far over the deep end with this issue??!!

How can a community college board, for Pete's sake, be the entity that decides to overrule the law, and in fact go so far as to provide incentives and non-vital services to people who illegally snuck across the border to invade our country?????!!!!! After they've already been given an entire free public education. How is this possible???!!!

Please, the full names of all people on this board and their votes need to be made public, if its not already public info. And those names provided to anyone and everyone in North Carolina, or nationally, who will publicize them, on TV, radio, newspapers. Enough!!! This college board is probably just some politically correct "diverse" group, chosen based only on their far left liberal politically correct views. But then, that is probably the majority of those in education administration or leadership.

Let the general public know!! Though I always know this crap is crazy, once in a while it is even more clear. Just like more Americans are now willing to stay "stop using the race card, it won't silence us anymore", I think more North Carolinians would be willing to speak out about this kind of crap also.

How do they propose to allow illegal aliens in when there isn't enough room for US citizens? These are just a few articles dealing with the enrollment crunch in NC, it's worse in other states. I don't get the logic of it, it's not like out-of-state tuiton even begins to cover the expenses for illegal aliens.
