TX-Nannycam Tapes Infant Spanking, Cops Say

Nannycam Tapes Infant Spanking, Cops Say

    Published : Friday, 07 Aug 2009, 11:45 AM CDT

DALLAS - A nanny was caught on tape spanking a five-month-old baby girl, Dallas police say. Now the nanny, who is also in this country illegally, is facing charges.

Officers arrested 51-year-old Martha Castillo on Wednesday after her employers called 9-1-1.

Once police showed up at the home in Dallas' M Streets, the baby's parents showed them a tape from a hidden camera.

Police say the video showed Castillo swatting the infant on the buttocks, causing pain.

Castillo was arrested for injury to a child, and is also being held on immigration charges.

A video camera captured a horrible sight for any parent: a child being physically disciplined by a care provider.

Now, A Dallas nanny is in jail, accused of injury to a child.

The incident happened in the 6000 block of Marquita in Dallas' M streets neighborhood, and involves a five-month old baby girl.

53-year old Martha Castillo is in jail, being held on an Injury to a Child complaint.

On Wednesday afternoon a 9-1-1 call was made to police, claiming Castillo had harmed the five month girl with excessive hitting.

The key for the officers was something they didn't expect: a nanny-cam with visual proof, that recorded the alleged assault.

"When officers arrived they were shown a video that had taken place, they believed they had enough evidence to put the lady in jail" says Dallas Police spokesman Corporal Gerardo Monreal.

According to a Dallas Police report, Castillo struck the little girl on the buttocks, causing pain to the child. The report says Castillo continued hitting the baby as she screamed.

Because of the age of the child, the family's name is not being released. The infant was not seriously injured.

Castillo is being held on a $2,500 bond for injury to a child, she also faces charges for being in the country illegally.

Is this supposed to be another example of those wonderful family values that illegal invaders are claimed to have?

I am not against a light smack on the rear end, BUT THIS WAS A BABY. At least they found out the mother is an illegal alien and will hopefully be deported like the LAW says. Its not our problem now. Let Mexico or wherever she is from handle it.

It was the nanny, not the mother.

IMO, spankings (only on the butt) are occasionally necessary. However, IMO, only the parents of the child should administer a good butt whipping when the situation warrants. Furthermore, the child receiving the spanking should be at an age where he or she knows the difference from right or wrong. A baby of this age definitely has not grasp the idea of right and wrong yet.

Oh, and I also have no problem with a good old fashion paddling being administered by an elementary school principal. Is that even being done anymore? I have several personal experiences from the receiving end of a few of those paddlings during my youth. I don't recall if they helped to make be a better man, but I do remember having a fear of being called back to the school office.
