A traffic stop in July 2006 in Athens Township in which 26 illegal immigrants were taken into custody has worked its way through the U.S. Justice Department.
On Tuesday, the federal agency announced that Dixie Steel Erectors LLC of Hanceville, Ala., which had hired the workers to do construction at the Lowe's store on North Elmira Street in Athens, will establish a compliance program to ensure all individuals employed by the company are authorized to work within the U.S. Dixie Steel was a subcontractor on the Lowe's project.
In 2006, Athens Township police pulled over two vehicles with Alabama license plates and discovered the undocumented workers. The workers were detained and then deported.
Dixie Steel must participate in the IMAGE program, which is administered by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. The program mandates the use of an online system operated jointly the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to ensure sound hiring practices.

I wonder why they don't go after the chicken processing plant in Athens? Everyone in the area knows that is the magnet for the illegals.
