ILLEGALS GET EVICTED FROM TENT CITY

    Posted: Tuesday, 12 January 2010 2:11PM

Dozens Of Day Laborers Forced from Huntington Station Tent City

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A controversial tent city on Long Island has been torn down leaving dozens of Latino day laborers that had lived there for years homeless.

    Mona Rivera reports

Last week, officials in the Town of Huntington tacked notices on their makeshift tents in nearby Huntington Station, threatening fines or imprisonment if the men didn't leave. The laborers say they have nowhere else to turn.

On Monday, a workers with shovels and chain saws arrived and ordered the laborers out of the Huntington Station woods where they have been living.

Authorities have said the men can't stay in Suffolk County's long-term emergency housing because they're undocumented.

The action ended a week-long standoff between the laborers and authorities, however it left unresolved the question of where the men will live during the day.

During the evening, they usually sleep at local churches.

Latino Advocate, the Rev. Allan Ramirez, is urging authorities and people to help the men. Ramirez said the men need shelter, food, sleeping bags and clothing. He has brought them hats, scarves, coats and blankets as they try to cope with the cold.

Ramirez says some people have donated money.

As reported by Newsday, the 26.6-acre site is the location of a proposed housing development by Avalon Bays, a developer in Melville that hopes to buy the property from Starlight Building Corp, Town of Huntington spokesman A.J. Carter said.

Ah, what about your church reverend? Why don't they take them in? That's what churches do, help the needy. Not to mention the fact that they have had a long time waiting out the political/legal process required to remove these people. It's no surprise to them, they knew it was going to happen and they just sat there instead of leave.

They need to picked up for vagrancy and sent back to the country they came from.

Better yet send them home! Does this community really need illegal alien bums, when they have plenty of the home grown variety!

Strange isn't it how the churches are always preaching about helping the homeless, pleading for people to take them in, etc.........and yet they are the last places on earth which will open their doors to these people as a means of a place to "hang out" during the day or sleep at night?

And there's a reason they won't.....because they know the standard of living most of these people maintain, the disrespect for the property of others, the theft, substance abuse, prostitution, etc.

THEY don't want them THERE. Damned hypocrites.

If they know they are illegal then why are they not being deported!

Churches also like getting federal tax $$$$ for "outreach" programs, in addition to what they collect from members. They keep most of that money. Alot comes in, a little goes out. If a church has tax-exempt status, they should not be receiving any federal money!

I don't want to hear how they buy food for the poor, blah blah blah. They do not pay, they demand donations from parishoners and businesses. They pocket most of the tax $$$. Been there, seen that.

Always remember that the Catholic Church is a BUSINESS, as are alot of other denominations. Takes alot of $$$$ to keep the beautiful churches, clergy, housing, schools running.

Actually, I don't blame the churches for pushing them out on the streets during the day--get a job so you can contribute more money! Of course, the churches need time for cleaning (just like youth hostels in Europe--out by 11 a.m. and back by 3 p.m.)
And the churches, in their humanity should buy these guys tickets home, not aiding and abetting illegals. Any church doing this should be taxed retroactively for their violation of our sovereignty.
