advertisementBorder Patrol agents rescued a 28-year-old Mexican woman who was stranded Saturday in the Mule Mountains near Bisbee with a broken leg.
The rescue was instigated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday when agents apprehended a Mexican illegal entrant on Arizona 80 at milepost 346, a few miles east of Bisbee, said Mike Scioli, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman. The man told agents that he and his group had walked past an injured woman in the mountains.
Based on the man's information, the Border Patrol launched a search. A helicopter flew in, and agents on the ground had support from an ATV and horse patrol units, Scioli said. Within an hour, agents in the helicopter spotted the woman but were unable to land in the rugged terrain.
Agents walked up to her location and found the Mexican woman alone, Scioli said. They put her broken leg in a splint and carried her out to Arizona 80, where an ambulance was waiting. She was treated at a hospital in Bisbee and then granted a voluntary return to Mexico.
The woman said the other members of her group had left her behind when she was unable to keep up, Scioli said. Another group came by and told her they would get her help. The man who triggered the search after agents arrested him was part of that group.
The woman had been out in the cold and wind for four hours, Scioli said.

The GROUP she was traveling with left her.

Would the man had reported her plight if he hadn't been captured?

I agree. Give them the same thing they would get in Mexico. No free car seats and diapers either.

Yea - A rescue such as this would cost many thousands of dollars. I wonder how much this illegal paid to be rescued, treated, and returned to Mexico.

If an American Citizen requires emergency medical treatment / rescue during the commission of a crime, I can assure you they will be billed for country services.

We should send the bill to the nearest Mexican Consulate....
