Vargas' confession opens can of worms

Avoiding a dilemma doesn't eliminate it.

Jose Antonio Vargas deserves either applause or his walking papers.

Actually, he deserves applause, then his walking papers.

Last week, Vargas, a journalist with an impressive body of work he outlines on joseantoniovargas.com, revealed that he is an illegal immigrant.

In an article that appeared under the headline “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrantâ€

The system is broken; too often, the issue is muddied on both sides by political agendas meant to fuel stereotypes, further careers and, unfortunately, line the pockets of the unscrupulous. And its true that Vargas' Harriet Tubmans-come-lately ought to be at the center of the debate, along with nonpartisan economists and officers charged with enforcing the laws.

The system isn't broken - our laws simply are not enforced for a variety of reasons, from cheap labor to future voters.

It annoys me to the extreme when people who have knowlingly broken our laws compare themselves to American citizens demanding our laws be enforced.
