    Lou Dobbs Tonight
    Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Tonight, Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker are on
Capitol Hill testifying on the Iraq war. We’ll have all the
    details, plus:

    * Veterans Affairs employees are under scrutiny for using
official credit cards for lavish hotel stays and luxury goods.
Last year, the Department made over 3 million purchases with
credit cards and spent over $2.5 billion. We’ll have the
details on the wasteful spending at the Veterans Affairs
    Department on the taxpayer’s dime.

    * Last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced it
will bypass dozens of environmental and land use rules to meet
its deadline for border fence construction. Now, fourteen House
Democrats pledged to file a legal brief challenging the move.
Separately, the Sierra Club is petitioning the Supreme Court to
declare the plan unconstitutional. We’ll have the latest
    developments.

    * The party’s over for American consumers. The cheap imported
goods Americans are addicted to are becoming more expensive
because of inflation in the developing world. Gas prices show
no signs of cooling, sucking billions each week directly out of

    Re:
A Victory for Cheap Foreign Labor
A huge victory yesterday for businesses looking to hire cheap foreign labor rather than American workers. The Bush administration’s Department of Homeland Security is changing the rules so that students studying technology can stay more than twice as long than before on their visas. That gives them a much better chance of being hired here (and getting an H-1b work visa) at a time when more and more Americans are out of work. Click here for our report.
Speak out against the new Department of Homeland Security rule.

Include "DHS Docket No. USCIS-2007-0060" in the subject line of the message.

The basic change is that what is known as OTT (Opt Training Time) - has been extended to 2 years instead of just 1 from before.

The credit for forcing additional Americans out of IT/high-tech jobs are largely:

Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and Lamar Smith TX (R-TX)
