Upset by lack of funds, sheriff has residents tell of run-ins with human and drug smugglers

ARIZONA CITY — Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu asked for 3,000 soldiers on the border and funding for a seven-man tactical team to be added to his department during a press conference Wednesday in Arizona City.

A proposal for the tactical unit was dropped from the agenda of the county Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this week.

Babeu brought several families from the Silver Bell area south of Arizona City to tell of recent incidents in their neighborhoods.

Silver Bell resident Nancy Henderson called PCSO on Sept. 7 to report that her home had been burglarized while at work that day.
