A man was arrested after his neighbor was stabbed to death at a New Iberia mobile home park Saturday.

Luis A. Reyes, 32, of New Iberia, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing, which happened around 9:20 p.m. at Barrera’s Mobile Home Park on Creighton Broussard Road.

Dennis J. Segura Jr., 35, died at the scene.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy Wendell Raborn said Reyes and Segura got into a fight outside Segura’s mobile home on Lot 3.

Raborn said Reyes apparently stabbed Segura, who collapsed in his driveway.

Iberia Parish Coroner Dr. James Falterman Sr. said Segura died of stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

He said an autopsy would be conducted today.

Investigators searched Reyes’ trailer, but Reyes was not home.

Deputies found him at 2 a.m. Sunday in an area along Avery Island Road near L. Dubois Road. He was arrested following a brief chase.

Raborn said he did not know why the two men were fighting, adding they lived in close proximity to one another.
