ILLEGAL ALIENS DAMAGE - DRAIN AMERICAS ECONOMY

Nearly three months ago I wrote about the movement of cash out of the United States through remittances and other methods by illegal aliens who came to the United States with the single-minded focus of securing illegal employment to send money home to assist their family members. The amounts of money that are consequently drained from our economy are huge and do not include the other costs our nation incurs because of the 20 million illegal aliens who are estimated to be residing and working in our country illegally.

An article recently posted by Yahoo News "As dollar falls, migrants feel pinch." It was originally published in the Christian Science Monitor. The article is focused on the impact of the reduction in the value of the dollar on the illegal aliens who are draining billions of dollars out of our nation's economy, nothing is said about the impact of this loss of money on the economy of the United States and on the ability of the average American to meet his (her) expenses.

I am certain that you have heard the so-called "man in the street" interviews that broadcast journalists frequently conduct when lottery jackpots soar into the stratosphere. Often the person interviewed is waiting to buy a lottery ticket and has a distinctive foreign accent (not necessary a Spanish accent), and the question is asked, "If you win the 120 million dollar prize what will you do?" In so many of those cases, the answer is quick and to the point, "I am going home to my country!"

I have arrested many illegal aliens as an INS agent. It was not uncommon for the illegal aliens to make it clear that they were here for one purpose and one purpose alone, to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible and send it all home. I recall that one day I got into a discussion with some guys at a gas station in Queens, New York when I first became an immigration inspector. I drove a Jaguar sports car in those days and when I pulled into the gas station they struck up a conversation with me about my car. These guys had heavy Greek accents and consequently I became curious about their immigration status. I managed to steer the conversation into a discussion about their unusual accents. They told me that they had recently jumped ship but that they thought that the INS agents would never find them because INS agents were too dumb! I didn't say anything but you could imagine how I felt about that statement. These three guys then told me that they really did not like the United States or most Americans but that they could make a lot of money here and that they would work as long as they needed to so that they could get the amount of money they wanted. They volunteered that they would never want their families to visit the United States or vacation here, for them, they told me, this was all about the money! They told me that they would like to take care of my car and asked if I needed an oil change or other service. Seeing a golden opportunity I arranged to have them work on my car the following week. Needless to say I had a conversation with some of my buddies in the investigations branch at the INS. At the appointed time I was to have my car serviced, some of those "dumb" INS agents showed up and arrested them!

While I know that many aliens who come here to work want to remain here, all to many come to the United States with a "looter" philosophy. They are here to get as much money as they can as quickly as they can. These illegal aliens give the lawful immigrants a bad reputation. The immigrants truly want to share the "American Dream." They want to establish their roots in our country and raise their children here. Such was the case for my mother who was an immigrant and my dad's parents who were also lawful immigrants.

The problem is that the relationship that businesses have with the United States is one of greed. These companies couldn't care less about the damage that they do to this country or the average working American. They are happy to exploit the illegal aliens and in so doing, get a lucrative piece of the action.

The bankers and money wire services like Western Union have become the silent partners of the illegal aliens whether they are simply working as dishwashers or if they are drug dealers. These remitters are paid a percentage for moving money and to these unscrupulous executives, all money is of the same color; green! Drug proceeds are no different from money paid to a worker in a sweatshop or a dishwasher slaving away at the back of a greasy spoon diner.

Of course, if the American dollar plummets far enough many illegal aliens will probably just head for home leaving this country in financial disarray. When you read about the amounts of money being sent out of the United States and lost to our economy you must realize that the money you are reading about is money that is not being earned by Americans or by lawful immigrants. This is because the Americans and those aliens who are lawfully entitled to work in the United States have been displaced by illegal aliens who are willing to work for substandard wages.

What is completely insane is that the Congress has just passed what has been billed as an "Economic Stimulus Package." This bill will undoubtedly be signed into law by the President and will call for taxpayers to be mailed one-time rebate checks that it is hoped, will be used to spend on consumer goods that, for the most part are not even produced in the United States. It is a though the government is paying us a one time "allowance" so that instead of buying comic books and bubble gum we will buy more crap like wide screen televisions, etc. A large part of the problem we are having right now is that Americans are not saving enough money. Our citizens have been cashing in the value of their homes with second mortgages and huge credit card debts and now, the value of most of those houses has fallen into the basement!

There is an utter lack of fiscal responsibility in abundant evidence in Washington and on kitchen tables across the United States and meanwhile, the front runners in the Presidential elections are eager to provide amnesty and thus more incentives for still more illegal aliens to run our nation's borders and drain still more money out of our economy. They will do this through remittances and other means of sending money back home. They will do this when they show up in the emergency rooms of hospitals across our nation demanding medical treatment without medical insurance. The criminal element of this massive influx of illegal aliens will injure and kill more victims in our country destroying lives and the lives of family members of the victims of those crimes. Some of the crimes will also result in property losses and in fraud (identity theft is the fastest growing white collar crime in America today and is often motivated by organized rings that sell these stolen identities to illegal aliens seeking illegal employment.

The Congressional Budget Office has recently done a study that concludes that contrary to the assertions of the open borders / pro-amnesty crowd, illegal aliens represent a net drain on the economy.

Finally, the attacks of September 11, 2001 destroyed so many lives and so many families are still feeling the economic as well as the emotional devastation created by those horrific attacks. Those attacks hammered our economy and the economies of other countries. Trade suffered, travel and tourism suffered, yet, in as short-sighted a manner that is almost inconceivable, the travel and hospitality industries are pushing a program known as "Discover America" wherein they are attempting to have the United States government expand the Visa Waiver Program beyond the current 27 participating countries to as many as 39 countries.

In the name of profit while all of the various businesses are pushing for open borders and the movement of still more money out of our country, it is, in the end, the United States and its working poor and middle class that is shouldering the greatest burden. Interestingly with all of the interviews that were conducted in the Yahoo article, not a single interview was conducted with an American family to find out what the impact of the decline of the dollar has had on the average American family. Also worth noting that in their article about illegal aliens their immigration status is never even raised and the term alien is never used.

It is time that We the People make our voices heard!

That sucking sound you hear is the money heading down the drain and out of our nation's economy. This is dangerous for our nation and dangerous to the economic survival of our citizens
