EL PASO, Texas -- A man died Monday morning after a water rescue at a canal alongside the Border Highway near Yarbrough Drive.

El Paso firefighters and a water rescue team were sent to the canal around 7:15 a.m.

Authorities performed CPR on a man who they said was in his 30s, but he later died at the hospital, officials said.

They said another man was also in the canal, but was able to get out on his own. He was turned over to Border Patrol, firefighter officials said.

First rule if you cant swim dont go into the water.Second rule havent they learned yet if they get caught all they do is send them back thats better than being dead.Once they are deported the can try to come back in.

i saw a report on the el paso times site. it said nothing about anyone being turned over to border patrol
