Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.14.2008
The fugitive: Uriel Alberto Valdez, 25
When: Sept. 30, 2005
Investigators: U.S. Marshal's Service
Summary: A Tucson police officer pulled over a vehicle that was drifting left of the center line and ran a standard record check on the occupants of the vehicle including Valdez, who was riding in the passenger seat, according to the criminal complaint.
The officer asked to search the vehicle, and the driver consented, the complaint said. The driver told the officer that there was a gun under the driver's seat.
As the officer continued to search, he found another gun under the passenger seat.
Valdez said the gun belonged to him and that he had bought it from a friend four months earlier, the complaint said. When asked about his citizenship, Valdez said he was not a U.S. citizen.
He was arrested for being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm.
The latest information: Valdez was convicted and sentenced to two years supervised release, according to Deputy Tom Twohey, a spokesman for the Marshal's Service.
Valdez was later questioned by another agency regarding his involvement and/or knowledge in a homicide case, Twohey said. Details on the case were not available.
Shortly thereafter he absconded.
Valdez is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
