ANDRADE - More than 29 pounds of cocaine worth nearly $1 million was seized in a joint effort by Customs and Border Protection Field Operations officers and a CBP Border Patrol canine team at the Andrade Port of Entry, Tuesday night.
A drug detection dog, assigned to Yuma Sector Border Patrol in Arizona, alerted to a California-registered sport utility vehicle as it attempted to enter the United States from Mexico at the Andrade port of entry last night. After moving the truck aside for further inspections, CBP officers discovered an after-market compartment below the floorboards with cocaine hidden inside.
The cocaine weighed 29.7 pounds and had an estimated street value of $951,680. The vehicle, drugs and the 26 year-old female driver were turned over to the El Centro Immigration and Customs Enforcement office for prosecution.
Andrade is located about 160 miles southeast of Palm Springs.
