Latinos, GOP must unite for DREAM

The author writes that his ultimate goal is a 'bipartisan immigration solution.'

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is set Thursday to host a gathering of prominent Latino conservatives in Washington. This forum is designed to help bind Hispanics to a powerful idea at the core of the Republican Party: promoting liberty here and abroad.

This conference takes place just as Congress prepares to vote on the DREAM Act, bipartisan legislation that allows young immigrants to earn legal status by attending college or serving in the military.

As a co-founder of Conservatives for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, I view this confluence of events as an opportunity for conservatives and liberals to escape the current polarization in U.S. politics. Instead, we can promote sensible and compassionate solutions to our nation´s problems.

As our partners at the National Association of Evangelicals explain the ultimate goal: a bipartisan immigration solution that respects every person, protects the family, respects the rule of law, guarantees secure national borders, ensures fairness to taxpayers and establishes a path toward legal status for those who qualify.

The opportunity for reform before us now is the DREAM Act. If passed, it would allow promising immigrant youth, who were brought to America as children and grew up in our schools, to earn legal status by serving in the U.S. armed forces or attending college. Otherwise, they face a bleak future: either stop their education and professional development and hide in the shadows, or return to countries of origin they do not know. This would be a tremendous waste — not only for them, but for our nation. America needs these talented young men and women.

If, as conservatives, we fail to show our support for the DREAM Act now, we risk rejecting the very values of liberty, democracy and human freedom that Gingrich’s “The Americanoâ€

Gingrich is a traitor, and a political hack.

The only sensible and compassionate thing to do is secure the border and deport all aliens - and jail their employers. Our young college graduate citizens do not have jobs.

Any Republican who thinks that they are more electable if there are more foreign born Latinos able to vote is out of their idiot minds. The minute the act is passed, a large volume of Latino anchors will run for office and beat out each and every Republican. Any loyalty they gain would be dependent upon whether or not someone whose loyalties lie south of our border enters the race against them.

In the end, however, this should not be about politics — but about the young lives that may be changed by this act.

As my friend Carlos Campo, the president of Regent University, said recently, “How can we look into the eyes of these kids and tell them they cannot dream?â€

The vast majority of the American public supports the DREAM Act
Is that statement substantiated at all by a reputable unbiased poll someplace? Even if one could find "vast majority" support for the concept of the Dream Act, i.e. very limited amnesty for college graduates and military service; I suspect that support would wither if the actual scope, costs, and effects of the Dream Acts were revealed.

I do kind of get the feeling that Gingrich is a bit naive about what some folks dreams really are.

    Illegals

No Americans do not support the Dream Act. Only the politicians like Gingrich supports the Dream Act. Look Gingrich illegals enter our country without visas or overstay. That is their problem. We did not create the illegal immigration problem. Therefore, illegals must leave now. No Dream Act. Never.

I am in that "small" percentage===

I am in that "small" percentage=== that is opposed to the Dream Act. I think there are only 60% of us and a few more who are "undecided".

So , we must give way to the activists who would vest their children and the children of the world with American rights at American expense.

No real Americans do not support the Dream Act. We support jobs and schools and benefits for Americans from Americans.

Newt Gingrich must be kidding himself if he is sitting around contemplating running for president in 2012. This fiasco will seal his fate as far as that move is concerned. I didn't think he was really that stupid.

Juan Hernandez was the main reason I did not vote for McCain. He's emblematic of the RINO support for illegals.

Please keep repeating this to Congressional offices....

"Please oppose the Dream Act Amnesty because it would displace and replace millions of innocent American students, workers, and voters with illegal aliens!"

Thanks to your efforts yesterday, we have identified 10 of the 83 targeted Democrats who will vote NO on Dream Amnesty! We only need 30 more to win and stop this bill!

Please start your calls today by calling the 10 listed as "Voting No" and say...

"I want to thank Congressman _______ for voting No on the Dream Act Amnesty which would 'displace and replace millions of innocent American students, workers, and voters with illegal aliens!' Please ask him to encourage other Democrats to say No as well."

Once you have thanked the NO votes, proceed to lobby the unknowns.

Here is the activism link for you. We need all of our ALIPAC activist Aces High today!

NEW TIP: We have added towns and zips of district offices beneath the DC contact info. If a staffer challenges you for town and zip to disuade your call, you may give them the ones we provide or you can say "If you are listening to illegal aliens today, you can listen to me because I am an American."

    Let's Roll!

TAKE ACTION NOW WITH ALIPAC TO STOP DREAM ACT AMNESTY AT THIS LINK...
