More than 60 day laborers arrested during raid in League City

(1/19/06 - KTRK/LEAGUE CITY, TX) - Dozens of day laborers have been taken into custody following a raid in League City.

The raid apparently stemmed from the investigation into some potential sexual predators. League City police were trying to serve warrants  two for aggravated assault and one for intoxication manslaughter. They believed the suspects were in the Hispanic population, so they asked officers from Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to accompany them.

Police and ICE officers visited two League City locations. We're told the suspects police were after were among the 63 people taken into custody.

At least one woman who was arrested claims she was mistreated. She said she was caught up in the raid while simply trying to give her husband and friends a ride to work. Police say she attempted to help them escape from officers.

ICE officers are still questioning some of those arrested. Others have already been released.
