The Obama administration released illegal immigrants who went on to commit more crimes, including charges of 19 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sex crimes, the House Judiciary Committee said in a report Tuesday.
All told, 16 percent of the nearly 47,000 illegal immigrants the administration was notified of but declined to deport between 2008 and 2011 under its Secure Communities program have gone on to be charged with other crimes, the committee said.
They were part of the nearly 160,000 immigrants — most of them here legally — who were flagged by Secure Communities during the three-year period and who were later charged in nearly 60,000 more crimes, according to the committee and the Congressional Research Service, which looked at data the committee subpoenaed from the Homeland Security Department.
The Secure Communities program was designed to identify immigrants who end up in state and local prisons and jails who the administration decides it wants to deport.
While hundreds of thousands of aliens have been sent back home under the program, 159,286 were not put in deportation proceedings during the period under review, CRS said.
About three-quarters of those weren’t eligible for deportation because they were legal immigrants and their criminal records didn’t rise to the level of deportation.

“It’s ironic that in attempting to attack President Obama, House Republicans are laying out support for his administration’s efforts to focus enforcement on those who would do us harm,” the congresswoman said.

But nearly a quarter could have been deported and weren’t, CRS said. They went on to commit the 19 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sex crimes, the Judiciary Committee said.
“The Obama administration could have prevented these senseless crimes by enforcing our immigration laws,” said committee Chairman Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. “But President Obama continues to further his anti-enforcement agenda while innocent Americans suffer the consequences. His unwillingness to enforce immigration laws puts our communities at risk and costs American lives.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency responsible for deportations, said many of those identified by Secure Communities and detailed in the report either weren’t eligible to be deported or were released by local officials before ICE could respond.
Spokeswoman Barbara Gonzalez said that given limited resources, they have to pick and choose which aliens they go after.
“Because ICE is congressionally funded to remove a limited number of individuals each year, the agency prioritizes our enforcement efforts on individuals whose removal has the biggest impact on public safety, including immigrants convicted of crimes, violent criminals, felons, and repeat immigration law offenders,” she said.
The Obama administration has set records for deportations, removing about 400,000 aliens a year. But it has dramatically altered the composition of those being deported, shifting attention away from rank-and-file illegal immigrants and toward those who already have criminal records or who have repeatedly broken immigration laws.
In June, Mr. Obama announced yet another policy that shields most illegal immigrants age 30 and under from deportation. That policy won’t fully take effect until the middle of August, but it has already had an effect on those being deported.
Between Oct. 1 and June 16, a day after the new policy was announced, 51 percent of those ICE deported had criminal records. But in the month after the policy was announced, the percentage of criminals being deported jumped to 57 percent — a record high rate.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, ranking Democrat on Judiciary’s immigration subcommittee, said Republicans are trying to have it both ways — criticizing the president for focusing on deporting criminals, while now blaming him for crimes committed by those still here.

Report: Illegal Aliens Released by Federal Gov’t Committed 19 Murders, 142 Sex Crimes

While the Obama administration shuts down Border Patrol stations and loosens U.S. immigration policy, a new report by the House Judiciary Committee reveals that upwards of 36,000 illegal aliens were cut loose by federal law enforcement between 2006 and 2011. A number of these illegal immigrants went on to commit 19 murders and 142 sex crimes.
“The crimes charged against these illegal immigrants include nearly 2,000 DUI (11.9%), over 1,400 drug violations (8.8%), and more than 1,000 major criminal offenses and violent crimes (6.9%), including murder, assault, battery, rape, kidnapping, child molestation, domestic abuse, lynching, stalking, and torture,” the report says.

The report, issued today, was conducted by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) and contains an “analysis of crosschecked data” from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that was subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee last November. The Committee subpoenaed DHS after the Obama administration’s announcement to stop deporting some illegal aliens identified by Secure Communities, a program that flags illegal immigrants who have been arrested and booked in local jails, according to the report.
“President Obama’s reckless amnesty agenda is dangerous and deadly for Americans. Rather than protect the American people he was elected to serve, President Obama has imposed a policy that allows thousands of illegal immigrants to be released into our communities,” Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said in a statement. ”They have committed thousands of more crimes, including 19 murders, 3 attempted murders, and 142 sex crimes, which could have been avoided.”

He continued: “For example, after an illegal immigrant was released, he and another illegal immigrant were arrested on suspicion of killing a man. And this is just one case. Illegal immigrants released from jail have committed other crimes, including nearly 2,000 DUI, over 1,400 drug violations, and more than 1,000 major criminal offenses and violent crimes, which consist of murder, assault, battery, rape, kidnapping, child molestation, domestic abuse, lynching, stalking, and torture.”

These are the “key findings” from the CRS report:

    • The data provided to the House Judiciary Committee by DHS includes 276,412 records of charges against illegal and criminal immigrants identified by Secure Communities between October 27, 2008 and July 31, 2011. There are 159,286 unique individuals in the database and 205,101 unique arrest incidents.
    • Of those released, CRS found that about 17% of illegal and criminal immigrants, or 26,412, were rearrested on criminal charges. These 26,412 recidivists accounted for a total of 42,827 arrests and 57,763 alleged violations.
    • The categories of crimes charged include nearly 8,500 DUI (14.6%), over 6,000 Drug Violations (10.9%), more than 4,000 Major Criminal Offenses (7.1%), which includes murder, assault, battery, rape, and kidnapping, nearly 3,000 Theft (4.9%), and over 1,000 Other Violent Crimes (2.1%), which includes carjacking, child cruelty, child molestation, domestic abuse, lynching, stalking, and torture.
    • These crimes committed by both illegal and legal immigrants include 59 murders, 21 attempted murders, and 542 sex crimes.
    • Of those rearrested, nearly 30%, or 7,283, were illegal immigrants. Since 46,734 illegal immigrants were released, this means they have a recidivism rate of 16%. These illegal immigrants should have been deported but the Obama administration’s lax immigration policies released them back into our communities.
    • The crimes charged against these illegal immigrants include nearly 2,000 DUI (11.9%), over 1,400 drug violations (8.8%), and more than 1,000 major criminal offenses and violent crimes (6.9%), including murder, assault, battery, rape, kidnapping, child molestation, domestic abuse, lynching, stalking, and torture.
    • These crimes committed by illegal immigrants include 19 murders, 3 attempted murders, and 142 sex crimes.

Illegal aliens commit murders, sex crimes after Administration refuses to deport them

    Human Events

The Washington Times relates some chilling statistics from a new House Judiciary Committee report: “The Obama administration declined to try to deport more than 36,000 illegal immigrants that were arrested on other charges between 2008 and 2011, including some who went on to commit 19 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sex crimes.” (Emphasis mine.)

Plenty of criminal illegals were indeed deported under the Obama Administration’s “Secure Communities” program, but those they decided to ignore went on to commit quite a bit of mayhem. House Judiciary Committee chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) declared, “The Obama administration could have prevented these senseless crimes by enforcing our immigration laws. But President Obama continues to further his anti-enforcement agenda while innocent Americans suffer the consequences. His unwillingness to enforce immigration laws puts our communities at risk and costs American lives.”

President Obama’s lax attitude toward illegal aliens has come under fire in other respects. According to an Examiner.com report published Monday, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent Christopher Crane, President of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, the union representing America’s more than 7,000 ICE agents and personnel, and Border Patrol agent George McCubbin, President of the National Border Patrol Council, the union representing America’s more than 17,000 border agents and personnel, both blasted President Barack Obama’s de facto ‘Dream Act,’ and the actions of superiors at their respective agencies.”

Agent Crane disputed Administration claims of diligently enforcing immigration law, saying “those on the front line know this to be untrue… they see the violence, chaos, and lawlessness.” He accused the Administration of a “sustained, relentless effort to undermine America’s immigration laws,” in which they have “handcuffed and muffled those charged with protecting the public safety and the integrity of our borders.”

Among the incidents cited in the Examiner article were the discovery of 25 illegal aliens attending a flight school in Boston (three of them actually got pilot’s licenses!) and an illegal with four different arrests on his record, who was allowed to walk out of a courtroom because the prosecutors, according to Crane, said “He’s a DREAMer. Release him.”

It has also been alleged that aliens can get protected DREAM Act status merely by claiming to meet the criteria, without providing much in the way of supporting documentation.

This is all very contrary to the way Obama’s “DREAM Act by fiat” was sold to the American public. We are repeatedly assured that criminal illegal aliens will be swiftly deported – only the most desirable, law-abiding, hard-working people, who follow every law except our immigration laws, will be granted amnesty.

It doesn’t seem like that’s happening. Instead, according to Agent Crane’s allegations, DREAM Act status is becoming de facto immunity to all American law. We continue to explore the dangerous cognitive dissonance of a system that decides some laws don’t really apply to certain people, according to political imperatives, while other laws are supposed to be rigorously enforced. It’s a shame so many people appear to have forgotten that lawlessness is contagious.
