Deputies Arrest Suspected Illegal Alien

by B. Jay Johnson

An alleged illegal alien accused of crashing through the fence of a home on Club Drive is now in custody at the Bradley County Justice Center.

Authorities say 44-year-old Everado Gutierrez Velazquez was intoxicated when the car he was driving rammed into a tree at the home of Otis Eaton.

When Eaton approached the suspect, he allegedly put the car in reverse and slammed into the corner of a fence that surrounded Eaton's home.

Investigators say Velazquez fled the scene, but was later arrested just a few blocks away from where the incident took place.

The suspect appeared in court shortly after the crash occurred. He was released from jail after posting $1,500 bond.

When Velazquez was released from jail, the Bradley News interviewed the homeowner Otis Eaton. He told us he was extremely upset and feared Velazquez would not show up for his next scheduled court appearance on June 22.

Sure enough, when Friday, June 22 rolled around, Velazquez was a no show in court.

Later that evening, Bradley County sheriff's deputies arrested Velazquez at 450 Gaut Street. He reportedly told the deputies he didn't make his court appearance because he didn't have a way to get there.

Velazquez is originally from Mexico. He has been charged with driving under the influence, not having a Tennessee driver's license and failure to appear in court.
