One particular case noted was that of Jessica St. Pierre, a US citizen who was fired last year after the E-Verify system reported that she was not authorized to work. Ms. Pierre apparently visited SSA, called E-Verify, and yet no one could resolve the issue. In the end, it turns out that her employer had mistakenly entered two spaces after her name which had caused the irresolvable nonconfirmation.

Both Mr. Stana and Ms. Bertucci noted that USCIS needs to figure out a way of identifying the source of these errors so that US citizen employees like Ms. Pierre can quickly resolve the issue (in her case, she was out of work for almost 3 months).
It is negligence, nothing more or less, for the US government not to be able to identify a US citizen immediately or within 24 hours and such rare cases as this one should have no bearing on moving forward swiftly with E-verify and making it available to all employers. As to the mandatory, I don't really care if its mandatory or just available. Either way works for me, because if an employer hires an illegal alien without using E-verify that is readily available to them, then there should be no defense against fines or prosecutions that they didn't know they were hiring an illegal alien, because they should have known. However, that said, it should be mandatory for all job applicants who are immigrants, naturalized citizens, who don't speak fluent American accent English, visa holders, and those whose parents aren't US citizens.

In addition, E-verify should be mandatory for all public funding assistance, MediCaid, SCHIP, MediCare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Free School Lunch, HUD Low Income Housing, Public School Enrollment, 501 C 3 formation and employment, state and federal licensing, and all real estate, bank/money, transportation and union transactions.

    Sounds like a plan.

It would go a long ways to stopping illegal immigration wouldn't it? We need to use E-verify for more than just employment, seems to me. It needs to be used for every transaction that involves taxpayer money, federal reserve funds and systems and all government regulated and financed activities including activities involving tax exempt funds. If there are areras I didn't think of, I hope others will post them and add them to the list.

The more the system is used and the bugs worked out of it the better the database will be. Cross it with the Federal and State databases and it will be a tool that every Law Enforcement officer can use to identify and detain illegals throughout the US. It may not be perfect and may never be, but its better than having millions of illegals leaching off of the American Society.
