Police say man confesses to Dallas-area shootings

GARLAND, Texas -- Police say the 22-year-old man accused of shooting at random motorists in Dallas suburbs has confessed.

The shooter missed in most cases during the three days of shootings in Garland, Mesquite, Richardson and Plano, but two men were wounded.

Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said Thursday that Thai-An Huu Nguyen of Garland confessed to police Wednesday night. But Harn says police still don't have a motive.

Nguyen was arrested Tuesday after reports of a sixth shooting outside a Garland restaurant.

Police say Nguyen has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.

Nguyen was being held in Dallas County jail on Thursday. Authorities say he'll remain in custody on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold. An ICE spokesman says Nguyen is in the U.S. legally, but is not a citizen.

It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
