EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen and Sheriff Richard Wiles said the exact same thing about people coming from Washington D.C. and promising funding, security and protection, and leaving both of them with empty promises.

"I've heard it before, I'll believe it when I see it. I don't know how many people have come to this jurisdiction and stood with Juarez as the background, talking about how they were going to bring additional funding and resources here, and they never do a thing," said Wiles.

"I've talked to [Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet] Napolitano, the sheriff has talked to Napolitano, people flying here left and right, use Mexico as a backdrop and then they fly out and then we never hear from them again, and it's getting a little bit old," said Allen.

KFOX spoke with Rep. Silvestre Reyes, the congressman for El Paso, to see what he thinks about the comments by the top law enforcement officials in the Sun City.

"I agree with them we need to be doing more," he said. "We put in $50 million just under what's called Operation Stonegarden, which is specifically dedicated to the police departments and sheriff's offices on the U.S./Mexico border."

But Reyes said the federal government can only go so far, and the responsibility falls on both Allen and Wiles to go and get the money that is out there.

"It's not automatic. They have to apply for it and it's awarded based on the biggest need," said Reyes. "We'll be happy to work with both the sheriff and the chief to make sure that they're applying for it and that they're applications are fully considered."

Rep. Silvestre Reyes has continuously stabbed El Paso in the back and is an absolute traitor. Before being elected as a Rep. he was in charge of the Border Patrol in El Paso and was greatly admired for the things he did.
He doesn't even support the Border Patrol anymore and hasn't ever since he got the Congressional seat. He keeps getting re-elected because he runs unopposed and it's the Hispanics who keep him in Congress.
