PORT ARTHUR — A routine check of two marine facilities by U.S. Customers and Border Patrol netted 37 suspected illegal immigrants.

The multi-agency operation visited R&R Marine Fabrication and Drydock facility on Procter Street Extension and Cal Dive International on Yacht Club Road Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement set up perimeter around the facilities before agents made their visits. But when some of the suspected illegals saw Border Patrol agents they began to flee the scene running into nearby neighborhoods. A number of people were detained at the intersection of Duff Drive and Procter Street.

Port Arthur Police Officer Heather Primm of the Street Crimes Unit, said female Hispanics were seen in the area near the raid driving very slow while talking on cell phones. At least one man was picked up in a truck by a female and later apprehended by police, she said.

Will Wilson, senior vice president for R&R, released a statement to the press regarding the incident.

“We can confirm Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Coast Guard officers were at our facility this morning and some employees were detained by ICE,â€
