EAGLE — Jesus Adrian Romero talks excitedly in the Eagle County jail with a handful of other inmates, many of whom entered the United States illegally.

Romero and the other men in their 20s chatter in Spanish about what life is like in jail as Jairo Esparza, a fellow inmate, quickly translates.

One has been accused of firing a shotgun at and wounding a man at the Dotsero volcano. Another man has been accused of biting off a man’s ear.

Romero said he failed to complete alcohol classes after he drove drunk. Jail isn’t “so badâ€

You cite figures in your article on the costs to taxpayers to transport and house illegal alien inmates in other area facilities. Could you please do a follow up and publish the direct cost of illegal alien inmates that are housed in the Eagle County jail, as well? The combined cost would illustrate to people the magnitude of the problem.

Jails in colorado are bieng bankrupted by Illegal Immigrants and ICE will only deport very few of the ones that are there right now soaking up benefits on taxpayers dollars.

Sure, I’ll try in the future, but I think $20 million for the new jail is the most relevant figure.
