Immigration reform foes using scare tactics
August 18, 2007
Will you print a dissenting opinion to the scare tactics of your editorial, which tries to convince us that we shouldn't demand immigration reform because the jobs in hotels and gardens won't be filled?
As a citizen, I would be happy to do any job such as cleaning hotel rooms (I do that now for free) if the job paid a "living wage" for the work. If employers want to attract competent American employees, they need only offer decent salaries. This may bring the cost of a hotel room up, but it will also benefit citizens who don't send money to other countries. It would increase taxes collected by these companies and paid by the employees, and it would stop the drain on our emergency rooms and schools uncompensated for uninsured illegal immigrants.
Corporations and businesses using scare tactics to prevent immigration reform for their own selfish interests are the villains who do not serve legal immigrants and citizens of the United States.

You know the fact is - illegal workers haven't brought the price of anything down - or kept it down. It has just added to the profit margin of the employers.
The other fact is - should that employer decide to raise the price of the product to keep his present profit margin - we will still be better off. We will be better off in that we will be a safer, cleaner, more law abiding country. Also, the hidden costs of illegal immigration - taxes, healthcare, insurance, etc., - equals far more than the $.50 they might add to a motel room's cost.
Besides if I knew a motel owner was a good American, hiring Americans to clean the rooms, I might actually want to stay in a motel again. An employer who would hire an illegal will cut corners in other ways.
I got tired of having to call when we checked in and have them come and strip and actually change the beds, and vacuum the room. I got tired of having to bring my own covers and pillows - so I bought a travel trailer.
I used to like staying in motels -Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
