Capitol police prep for immigation rally

Seventh rally in support of Hazleton Mayor Barletta will be in Harrisburg on Saturday.

People on both sides of the illegal immigration debate don’t know what to expect at Saturday’s rally in Harrisburg as far as attendance, but Capitol Police are ready for anything.

Hazleton-based Voice of the People USA plans to hold its seventh and largest rally in support of Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, his Illegal Immigration Relief Act and immigration reform. The gathering is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the steps of the state Capitol.

Dan Smeriglio, founder of Voice of the People, said he’s pleased with the quality of the 16 speakers scheduled for the rally, especially state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler County, who sponsored state legislation addressing illegal immigration issues.
