Previously deported man nabbed
Previously deported man nabbed in drug bust
by Cheryl McDermott
A 26-year old fugitive with several outstanding arrest warrants who had been previously deported from the United States was arrested Wednesday night in Jefferson County, Oregon when deputies found over $15,000 worth of methamphetamine and heroin hidden in his vehicle, officials reported.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective Dominguez said that Balam Andres Servin-Cornejo - a Mexican national currently residing in Beaverton, and a convicted sex offender - was stopped while driving a maroon 1998 Ford Ranger pickup for a traffic violation. The driver was asked for, and provided his consent to a search of his vehicle, the detective said.
Deputies were joined on scene by Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) detectives, Oregon State Police troopers, and Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies accompanied by a drug-detecting dog. The dog alerted to the odor of drugs, and a search yielded the discovery of over 150 grams of meth and 5 grams of heroin hidden in the pickup’s engine compartment, a news release stated.
The suspect was taken into custody and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail without incident. It was later discovered Servin-Cornejo had provided false identification to police, and had several Washington County outstanding warrants for his arrest, Dominguez said. He had previously been deported to Mexico, his native country.
Servin-Cornejo remains in jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. He is charged with possession, manufacture, and delivery of methamphetamine; possession of heroin; identity theft; providing false information to a police officer; and failure to report as a sex offender.
