TAMPA -- Herald Staff Report

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Florida Highway Patrol are seeking the public's help to find a 51-year-old Colombian national linked to a driver license fraud scheme in Hillsborough County.

Gloria Ines Bustamante was charged by the state in April for her alleged involvement in a driver license conspiracy in which a government employee allegedly accepted money from undocumented migrants to obtain licenses, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.

Bustamante, who has been on the run since charges were filed, allegedly served as chief recruiter for the organization. Bustamante allegedly charged immigrants $1,200 to obtain a license.

She then referred the immigrants to Deisy Oropesa, a former Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office employee, who allegedly facilitated the fraud, the agency said.

Oropesa, who was indicted on federal charges last week, allegedly entered false information into the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' computer system to reflect that the undocumented migrants applying for driver licenses presented U.S. passports.

''We are confident that someone in our community will recognize this criminal and notify us,'' said Susan McCormick, deputy special agent in charge of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office of investigations in Tampa.

Anyone with information regarding Bustamante's whereabouts is encouraged to call the agency by dialing its toll-free hotline at 1-866-DHS-2ICE.
