Criticism of I.C.E. Insults Officers Who Are Upholding Law

This is an Opinion Piece from USA TODAY. You can leave a comment about it at the USA TODAY web site by following the link, sign in and post your comment there.

Criticism of ICE insults officers who are upholding law

Kelly Nantel, press secretary, Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Washington

Raul Reyes, a New York attorney, wrote a Forum piece saying Immigration and Customs Enforcement's raid at a worksite in Postville, Iowa, caused an increase in homelessness, crime and public drunkenness. With a broad pen stroke, he wrote that ICE's raids "are, in essence, government-sanctioned racial profiling," and he suggests that its agents would conduct operations differently in white neighborhoods or against Anglo suspects ("What are ICE raids accomplishing?," The Forum, Friday).

These claims are offensive to the men and women charged with enforcing our nation's immigration laws.

Reyes also stated that the identity thefts committed by illegal immigrant workers are "a far cry from robbing someone of their money or property by stealing their identity." Tell that to those who've been denied health care benefits, home mortgages and social assistance based upon income reported by illegal immigrant workers who used stolen identity information to obtain their jobs.

It's very clear Reyes doesn't have firsthand knowledge of ICE's enforcement activities. We take care to address humanitarian concerns in our work. Certainly, we understand the desire to promote comprehensive immigration reform, but in endeavoring to make a case, Reyes should get the facts first and refrain from insulting the officers who are simply carrying out their sworn duty to uphold the law.

Illegal immigrants have absolutely no right to be in our United States. Lest anyone forget, they broke our laws by coming here.

Furthermore, it is also against our laws for anyone to employ an illegal anywhere within our United States.

There are over 8.8 million unemployed American workers, and that number is growing with every passing day.

Illegals, use forged, falsified, or stolen identities, to illegally obtain jobs, that rightfully, and legally, belong to American workers. This is also against our laws.

Illegals only have themseleves to blame for any inconvenience caused by their, lying, cheating, and stealing from American taxpayers.

Recently the House Appropriations Committee, led by Rep. David Price, North Carolina, gutted I.C.E.'s 287(g) program. Americans everywhere, but especially in North Carolina, should be completely outraged that an alleged American, with obvious illegal immigrant leanings, had the audacity to mess with I.C.E.'s most effective tool for ridding our nation of law-breaking illegal immigrants who are costing American taxpayers of 100's of billions of dollars each year.

As patriotic Americans we need to work to restore everything that Representative David Price, North Carolina, took from the 287(g) Program, and in fact, increase the funding for this very necessary, and nation saving program.

I.C.E does an outstanding job, and we all need to do everything we can to help I.C.E., rather than hiinder them, as most Democrats, and other illegal advocates, are prone to do.

JohnDoe2, it has had only 4 people post but 97 people have read it or viewed it, a lot of people are here but don't post....

Also, while we are always glad for the updates on the stories we just contacted congress over this same subject last week when Rep. Luis Gutierrez made the same statement about ICE, called them Gestapo.

Way more people would be upset with this coming from a U.S. Congressmen than they would be from a NY Attorney. Although it is always good to get this kind of thing out in the open and these kind of people exposed.

We did demand and apology from him to ICE which I might add we have not seen yet, but people won't forget.

    Thanks for posting.
