    Gov't asked to fight deportations

    Wire services
    May 24, 2005

Mexican migrants from the Chicago area asked the Mexican government Monday to help them reunite families separated by deportations, arguing that new U.S. immigration and terrorism laws are being applied unfairly to hardworking people.

The group met with a representative of President Vicente Fox's administration and Mexico City Mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador and asked both to send the U.S. President George W. Bush letters requesting pardons for some 60 people who have been deported recently, often separating husbands from wives and children from their parents.

The group said López Obrador told them he would give them a letter. Deputy Foreign Relations Secretary Gerónimo Gutiérrez promised the support of the Mexican government, although it wasn't clear if that included the letter, a spokesman for the Foreign Relations Department said on condition of anonymity.

The migrant group urged the Mexican government to hire lawyers for the pending cases the majority from the Chicago area and they accused Fox of not fulfilling promises to help migrants living in the United States.

Fox "should and he needs to speak with more authority," said Emma Lozano, president of the nonprofit organization Pueblo Sin Fronteras.

The group of about a dozen deported migrants and activists said new U.S. immigration and anti-terrorism policies were being used to deport people seeking citizenship.

"They treat us like animals for violating immigration laws," said MarÃÂ*a GarcÃÂ*a, the founder of a nonprofit group for female migrants in Chicago. "We aren't criminals. We are workers."

During her emotional appeal, Lozano broke into tears describing the case of one migrant who burned off his fingerprints to avoid deportation.

Romina Perea, a mother of two young children, described being handcuffed, jailed and deported to Mexico more than two months ago even though her husband and children were all U.S. citizens.

The group planned to meet with officials of the U.S. Embassy on Tuesday.

There is nothing preventing families from being reunited in their country of origin but the separation of families here illegally is the risk and cost of entering the United States illegally.....and every alien knew it the moment they stepped into this country in violation of US Immigration Law.

Mexican migrants from the Chicago area asked the Mexican government Monday to help them reunite families separated by deportations
If they were so concerned about being seperated from their families then why did they come here illegally in the first place? They can be with their families right now by crossing back over to the Mexican border. I agree though that deporting one individual (aka part of the problem) is BS. The whole family should be deported. Nobody should be seperated from their families. Deport them all so they can all be together.

new U.S. immigration and terrorism laws are being applied unfairly to hardworking people.
Illegals are prohibited by law from working in the U.S. per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986

Fox "should and he needs to speak with more authority," said Emma Lozano, president of the nonprofit organization Pueblo Sin Fronteras.
Is that the name of the game? Rant and rave louder like a little cry baby and eventually the sissy American people will give in.

The group of about a dozen deported migrants and activists said new U.S. immigration and anti-terrorism policies were being used to deport people seeking citizenship.
They can seek citizenship in their own country like everyone else.

"They treat us like animals for violating immigration laws," said MarÃÂ*a GarcÃÂ*a, the founder of a nonprofit group for female migrants in Chicago. "We aren't criminals. We are workers."
Illegal immigration is a federal crime as per Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:

    * Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
    * Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
    * Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact;

    has committed a federal crime.

Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.

    That means wage thieves too.

So what would happen if US expatriates in Cancun, Baja California, etc asked the US government to intervene against the Mexican government in some matter?

The US expatriates would be deported and the Mexican government would force the US consulate to close.

I agree, they should be reunited. Send them back to Mexico (Fox can Pay for it. One way ticket ) . Then their families and they all rejoce and sing "reunited and it feels so good"
