    The National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers (NAFBPO) extracts and condenses the material that follows from Mexican and Central and South American on-line media sources on a daily basis.     El Universal (Mexico City) 6/6/08

    - The 47th U.S.-Mexico "inter-parliamentary" two day reunion starts tomorrow (Sat. 7th) in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The agenda of the Mexican participants focuses on immigration, security and competitiveness. The nearly 300 thousand "deportations" of Mexicans from the U.S. between January and May of this year will be "denounced" because it implies that 100 thousand children, some 75 percent of them U.S. citizens, are left abandoned.
    Other issues: analyzing weapons trafficking, coordinating work schedules in border crossing facilities, prioritizing removal of deportees by air, speeding up customs procedures and infrastructure of border crossing facilities. Three U.S. Senators & nine Congressmen are expected to participate.

    - A citizen's report in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora (note: this is just south of Yuma AZ) about a vehicle on the street with weapons led to the finding and seizure of 7,500 rounds of ammunition for AK47 assault rifle inside an unoccupied vehicle, a Honda with Nevada lic. 975UEF.

    - The second in command of the Mex. customs for the state of Colima was arrested for allowing and collaborating with the Sinaloa drug cartel for the entry of nearly two tons of pseudoephedrine in a shipboard container which had arrived earlier this year from Pusan, Korea. A second person, an agent of the "Public Ministry of the Federation" was also arrested as a co-participant in the scheme.

    - In Poanas, Durango, a town of some 5,000 pop., the Director of Public Safety resigned her post and 20 out of the 40 police officers did likewise just 24 hrs. after an armed group executed three police officers. There were two additional executions reported in Sinaloa, seven in Chihuahua, two in the state of Mexico and one in Oaxaca. (Portion of this last item also from Excelsior, (Mexico City)

    El Imparcial (Hermosillo, Sonora) 6/6/08

    The north end of the state of Sonora was the scenario for homicides and forcible abductions in Nogales, Naco and Agua Prieta. Also, Mex. army personnel seized weapons & drugs in Sonoyta.

    Cuarto Poder (Tuxtla, Chiapas) 6/6/08

    The flow of illegal aliens detained in the state of Chiapas (Mexico's southernmost, bordering with Guatemala) increased during May. 19,161 aliens "without papers" were detained, mostly from Central American countries but including also 54 from Ethiopia, 22 from Iraq, 57 from Somalia, 112 from Eritrea, 616 from Cuba and 82 from Ecuador.

    El Debate (Culiacan, Sinaloa) 6/6/08

    The results to date of 22 days of "Operation Culiacan-Sinaloa" which began May 13: seized :
    - 101 firearms
    - 31,188 rounds of ammunition
    - 407 clips
    - 69 grenades
    - Eleven million two hundred ninety-nine thousand dollars
    - Eleven thousand 445 kilos of weed
    And also: a house in Culiacan that had been searched last Wednesday by Mex. military and federal police and then secured and sealed was being robbed of its furniture and appliances by two soldiers who were caught in the act of loading the goods onto a truck the following day.

    El Diario de Coahuila (Saltillo, Coahuila) 6/6/08

    Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, Mexico's Deputy A.G., said that the so-called "Federation", the alliance between the Sinaloa and Juarez drug cartels headed by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada has practically paralyzed its operations because of the seizures by the federal government of aircraft and vessels which were used to transport drugs. He added that 7,402 land vehicles and sea craft have been seized.

    Cecilia Romero, head of Mexico's "INM" (Dept. of Immigr.) said that the suspension of the Merida Initiative would be deplorable for both Mexico and the U.S.; for "INM", it would preclude technology enhancement projects at inspection points and the training of personnel.

    La Voz de la Frontera (Mexicali, Baja Calif.) 6/6/08

    Someone called police in Mexicali because of strange language shouts and goings-on in a house at #365 Agustin Castro Ave. So., Mexicali. When police arrived and got the door opened nine Chinese - six men and three women - bolted out shouting. A man who claimed to be only their custodian was identified by the Chinese as one of the persons they were supposed to pay to take them to the United States. These bands trafficking in Chinese are said to be powerful and with the ability to corrupt, since each of the Orientals placed in the U.S. might pay up to 35 thousand dollars.

    Tamaulipas en linea (Matamoros, Tamps.) 6/6/08

    Francisco Javier Hernandez Zamorano, second in charge for the "PGR" (Mex. Dep't. of Justice) for the state of Tamaulipas, was forcibly abducted in Reynosa, Tamps., on May 1st. The "PGR" has now confirmed and announced that a body found executed in Sinaloa on May 2nd is that of Hernandez Zambrano (Our report of 5/3/08 relates; the victim was abducted while with his family at a restaurant)

    El Universo (Guayaquil, Ecuador) 6/6/08

    The European Union Interior Ministers approved new common rules for its 27 member nations regarding a number of more stringent measures dealing with undocumented immigrants; the European Parliament is now scheduled to vote on the measure between June 16 and 19 at Strasbourg, France. The Parliament's approval would make the new rules effective at the beginning of July 2010. (Our report of 5/23/08 relates)

    El Nuevo Diario (Managua, Nicaragua) 6/6/08

    A Canadian subject arrived at the municipal pier at Bluefields, Nicaragua, from Corn Island on the Caribbean. He told naval personnel there that the white powder he had was medicine; it turned out to be 3 kilos 218 grams of heroin. (note: equal to 7.079 lbs.)

    This was exactly the question I was going to ask, thanks for doing it for me....now how are we going to get an answer, I believe the meeting is going on as we speak!
