U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (06/30/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 28,002 pounds of marijuana and 123.8 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested 14 criminal aliens and 9 gang members. There were 2 rocking incidents.

Reported on June 24, 2010


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Deming, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Grand Forks Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after assisting local law enforcement officers with a vehicle stop near Jamestown, North Dakota. Records checks revealed the subject was a Sureño 13 gang member with an extensive criminal history. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,224 pounds of marijuana and two pickup trucks near Hebbronville, Texas. While on routine patrol duties, agents observed the trucks traveling on a ranch road. Upon seeing the agents, the drivers of the trucks suddenly drove off road and into the brush. The drivers of the vehicles absconded on foot. A search of the abandoned vehicles revealed the marijuana.


New Orleans Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador at a bus station near New Orleans, Louisiana. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously ordered removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,077 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search by agents revealed the marijuana concealed inside the trailer.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,356 pounds of marijuana, a van, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Granjeno, Texas. As agents approached the subject, he attempted to evade apprehension by driving toward the Rio Grande River. He was subsequently apprehended and a search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,931 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer. A subsequent search by agents revealed the marijuana inside the trailer. Records checks on the driver revealed he had an extensive criminal history to include two prior controlled substance convictions.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 88 pounds of marijuana, a pickup truck, and arrested a national of Jordan at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the truck, and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for murder in the state of Arizona, and had spent 17 years in prison. He had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents received information regarding a possible Ultralight Aircraft (ULA) incursion near Deming, New Mexico. As agents approached the area where the ULA was believed to have landed, it was seen heading back to Mexico. Agents performed a vehicle stop on a 1998 Dodge Neon seen leaving the suspected drop zone. Agents arrested the driver, a USC, and a search of the vehicle revealed 204 pounds of marijuana.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 214 pounds of marijuana and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Agents arrested the subject after he was seen exiting a storm drain tunnel.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fabens, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,285 pounds of marijuana, a 1999 Dodge Caravan, a 2005 Chevrolet Astro, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed individuals loading suspected narcotics into the two vehicles. The Dodge Caravan, which had been reported stolen, was later encountered abandoned with 586 pounds of marijuana inside. Agents performed a vehicle stop on the Chevrolet Astro, which contained 699 pounds of marijuana, and arrested the driver.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,512 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,035 pounds of marijuana and a Nissan Titan near Amado, Arizona. Agents were responding to reports of suspicious activity when they encountered the abandoned truck. A search revealed the marijuana inside the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,569 pounds of marijuana and recovered a stolen Chevrolet truck near Benson, Arizona. Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop and the driver of the truck failed to yield. The truck was later found abandoned, and a search revealed the marijuana inside.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a Norteño gang member and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fort Hancock, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Paisas gang member, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,387 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer and a subsequent search by agents revealed the marijuana inside.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 123.8 pounds of cocaine, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the trailer and a subsequent search by agents revealed the cocaine concealed inside.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,205 pounds of marijuana and recovered a Jeep Cherokee from the Rio Grande River near Garceno, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle being loaded with suspected narcotics near the river. As agents approached the vehicle, the driver turned the Jeep around and intentionally drove into the river. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents and state law enforcement officers seized 3,203 pounds of marijuana and recovered a Chevrolet Impala and a Dodge Ram pickup truck that were submerged in the Rio Grande River near Los Ebanos, Texas.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a Norteño gang member with prior convictions for transportation of a controlled substance, battery, and burglary. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject is a Sureño 13 gang member and a convicted felon. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for reckless homicide and armed robbery with use of force in the state of Wisconsin. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Agents deployed a life-saving device and pulled the subject, who was in distress, from the waters of the All American Canal.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. The subject was identified as a member of the Mexicles gang. The subject also had a criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,280 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a subsequent search uncovered the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Mission, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents and state law enforcement officials seized 2,601 pounds of marijuana and recovered a stolen GMC 2500 truck and a stolen Ford F-250 truck that were submerged in the Rio Grande River near Abram, Texas.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Stanfield, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child in the state of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,352 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet truck near Sells, Arizona. Agents were responding to suspicious activity when they encountered the abandoned vehicle. A search revealed the marijuana inside the truck.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Hereford, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for criminal sexual conduct with a child and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Arivaca, Arizona. Agents discovered the subject unconscious in a remote canyon. Border Patrol emergency medical technicians stabilized the subject and she was evacuated to a local hospital, where she was treated and released into Border Patrol custody.
